"The "BANNED" Match Game episode!"

RETRO REWIND: July 1973

Some viewers were upset when GSN aired this episode in 2001. Why? For the use of a word that may have been acceptable in 1973, but may not be found acceptable today.

LAST WEEK'S QUESTION & ANSWER

Before Chuck Woolery hosted Game Shows, he had a hit record called "Natually Stoned" with a group in 1968! What was the name of the group??

Answer: Avant Garde

8/07/2010: Welcome back to retrogameshows.com! I apologize for the delay in the update for its been rather busy on my end, but I do have a complete Match Game 73 episode for you today.

There is a story behind this episode. In 2001, Game Show Network aired the episode and actually received some publicized protest over the use of a word that society deems offensive today. Back then, GSN would air an episode in an afternoon time slot and re-air the same episode two weeks later in the morning time slot. To say the least, this episode did not re-air, and (to my knowledge) has not re-aired since! However, my VCR was rolling that day so I have in my archives the "banned" episode of Match Game 73.

Richard Dawson and Charles Nelson Reilly ended the month in a tie! So a tie breaker is in order. Who will be the winner? Please participate and cast your vote! Who is your favorite Match Game regular?

I'd also like to welcome Bryce Lozier to the Retro Game Show Scoreboard. Welcome! A new Concentration puzzle, trivia question, and Scrabble clue is up now for you to guess. There's 750 points at stake so take them!

I would like to thank you for visiting retrogameshows.com and your continued support!

--- Joe
