MATCH GAME 90

Shortly after the Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour was canceled, work began on reviving both Match Game and Hollywood Squares. It only took two years for Hollywood Squares to return, but it would be a few more years before the return of Match Game. While it is speculated that a pilot for Match Game was taped in 1985, the show would not return until 1990, this time with Ross Shafer as host.

The 1990 revival of Match Game kept in tradition with the 70's version with a few new features. Just like the previous version, contestants had to match as many of the six celebrities on the panel, but this time they earned $50 for every match. Unlike the 70's version, all six celebrities played in the second round, even if they already matched answers with the same contestant.

After the first round of matching, contestants participated in a new feature called Match Up. Each contestant, one at a time, would pick one celebrity to play Match Up with. The first time Match Up was played in a game the contestant and the celebrity would have 30 seconds to play Match Up. The contestant would have a fill in and two answer choices. Once the contestant made their decision, Ross would read the fill in and the choices to the celebrity. If the celebrity matched answers with the contestant, the contestant won $50.

After the second round, Match Up was once again played. Each contestant would have 45 seconds to match a celebrity and each correct answer was worth $100. Whoever made the most money in the game would then go on to play the Super Match which had the potential to pay off over $10,000. Let see how these contestants did.

This contestant had to beat $1100. Did she do it? No, she lost by $300. So her opponent won the game and $1100. Now it is time for the Super Match.

Just like the 70's set, the 90's set also had a turn table.

The Super Match did change slightly. The most popular response from the studio audience was still worth $500. The second most popular however was worth $300 and the bottom $200. Three of the celebrities could still give suggestions. Bill Kirchenbauer said, "Identical Twins".

The contestant would then play for ten times the amount or $5,000. That was the minimum he could play for. A lucky spin at the star wheel could double his jackpot. If the wheel landed on a dot, the jackpot would be doubled.

The contestant spun the green arrow and it landed on Bill. That of course is who the contestant would have to match in the head to head match. He did not land on a dot so the jackpot remained the same at $5,000.
